The brief

What the client needed

The City of Sydney wanted a library and a town square for Green Square, with most of the library set below the plaza so the public space stays open.

What we did

Scope and delivery

  • An 8,100 m² public plaza over a mostly underground 2,500 m² library
  • A glazed entry pavilion and cafe, and a glass tower of community and reading rooms
  • A sunken garden rotunda and open-air amphitheatre
  • 40 circular skylights, and connection to the Green Square Water recycled stormwater utility
The outcome

Why it matters

A cultural building that is also the neighbourhood's square, recognised internationally for it.
