What the client needed
The Commonwealth needed a permanent home for the Parliament of Australia, designed by Mitchell/Giurgola after an international competition and built on a 32-hectare site on Capital Hill.
Scope and delivery
- A 250,000 m² building of 4,700 rooms
- 460-metre curved granite walls and an 81-metre flagpole
- Full building services
- More than 500 separate trade contracts over eight years
Why it matters
The benchmark for complexity in Australian building, and part of how John Holland learned to run very large programs.
